Patient's rights and responsibilities

As a patient you have the right to:
be registered with a practice
see the doctor of your choice (but please remember that you may have to see any of the doctors if your need is urgent)
receive emergency care
receive appropriate drugs and medicines
be referred for specialist or second opinion if they are GP agrees
see your medical records or a copy, subject to certain laws
know that by law, everyone working for the NHS must keep the contents of your medical records private. With this rights come responsibilities for the public.
That means being:
courteous to staff at all times
as prompt as possible for all appointments
responsible for cancelling appointments in adequate time.
Who has access to patient information

The information we hold about our patients is often very sensitive and is subject to confidentiality and the Data Protection Act. Your records are the property of the Department of Health and information cannot be released to third parties without consent. To have access to your medical records / copies you will need to make a formal application in writing to our Practice Manager and she will arrange this for you at a mutually convenient time. There may be a fee for providing information. This will take place in the presence of a member of the staff. You are entitled to a copy of all or part of your records. There will be a charge for providing said copies. Access will be given within 40 days of receipt of request and any fee.
Policy on violent or abusive patients

We aim to treat our patients courteously at all times and expect our patients to treat our staff in a similarly respectful way. We take seriously any threatening, abusive or violent behaviour against any of our staff or patients. Patients who are violent, abusive or use foul language may be removed from our list.
